Pick My Colour
Pick My Colour
According to humanistic psychology the self is defined as a person’s belief about herself, her attributes and what the self is. This means that who we are is relative and we are pretty much what we think we are. This project of staged self-portraiture investigates these fluid notions of self; we play out different roles in different situations in life and the context we are in often defines us. By exploring binary oppositions within the personality, such as extrovert versus introvert, stable/unstable, optimistic/pessimistic, settled/displaced, strong/weak and so forth, the work confronts these fluctuant notions of identity. Each photograph depicts narratives in the juxtaposition between seemingly opposing and contradicting parts of the self.
